Cody Newport, CPA, Named One of Michiana’s Forty Under 40

Kruggel Lawton is pleased to announce that Cody Newport, CPA, has been selected as one of the 2025 Michiana Forty Under 40 honorees. This prestigious program organized by the South Bend Regional Chamber, Young Professionals Network South Bend and community sponsors, recognizes forty of the region's most accomplished and impactful young professionals who not only excel in their fields but also dedicate their time and talents to enriching the Michiana region through service and innovation.

“I am honored to be recognized as part of the Michiana Forty Under 40 Class of 2025,” said Newport. “I am grateful to Kruggel Lawton for giving me the opportunity to continue our tradition of making a positive impact in our community, fostering growth, and inspiring change through our collective efforts.”

Newport, who was named a partner at Kruggel Lawton on January 1, 2024, became one of the youngest professionals to be promoted to the partner level in firm history. Having demonstrated remarkable leadership and technical skills early in his career, Newport’s contributions to the firm’s assurance practice have been instrumental. Based in the firm’s Goshen office, he is actively engaged in business assurance services, including audit, review, and compilation work. Additionally, he contributes to the employee benefit plan audit team, providing support during the team’s busy season.

Prior to his promotion to partner, Newport was a key member of Kruggel Lawton’s KLimb to 2030 team. This award-winning team, consisting of hand-selected managers, focuses on planning for the firm’s future by exploring new growth opportunities and evaluating current client needs. In this role, he led efforts to optimize the firm’s resource utilization and enhance internal processes. He spearheaded the adoption of advanced digital technologies, including artificial intelligence and automation tools, significantly boosting the efficiency and accuracy of the firm’s assurance services, giving Kruggel Lawton a competitive edge in the profession.

“Cody’s exceptional character and leadership traits were evident from the time he joined Kruggel Lawton in 2015,” said Barry Hall, CPA, CGMA, Managing Partner. “His rapid rise within the firm highlights his technical skills as well as his commitment to excellence and the needs of our clients.”

Newport received his B.S.B.A with a focus in Accounting and Finance from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind. He holds an active Indiana CPA license and is a member of the Indiana CPA Society (INCPAS) as well as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) where he earned an advanced certification in audits of defined contribution plans. Newport is also a graduate of the INCPAS Young Pros Leadership Academy and the Elkhart Chamber Leadership Academy. In 2022, he received the prestigious Emerging Leader Award from INCPAS and was selected to participate in the 2023 Convergence Coaching Transformational Leadership Program.

Beyond his professional achievements, Newport is deeply committed to his community. He actively volunteers and participates in local events and serves on the boards of the Goshen Community Schools Foundation and the Goshen Public Library. A Fort Wayne native, Newport and his wife Laura have strong ties to the Goshen community where they are raising their four young children.
